Theme: People Date Added: 2018-12-11

What is it?

The Licensing Unit in the Affordable Medicines Directorate at the Department of Health (DOH) receives applications to prescribe and dispense medicines and publishes a list of approved individuals and pharmacies.

Key Points

  • Over 5,500 licenced medicine dispensers in South Africa
  • Licence data includes name, address and expiry date of licence
  • Also data on Section 22A(15) Primary Care Drug Therapy (PCDT) permits
  • And pharmacy premises license applications

Why is it Important?

Medicines can only be accessed through individuals and pharmacies that are licenced to prescribe and dispense that medicine. Patients should be able to verify the registration of medicine dispensers.
