DeedsWeb

Theme: Governance Date Added: 2018-12-14

What is it?

DeedsWeb is a web-based interface for up-to-date land registration information located on the Deeds Registration System database.

Key Points

  • Property search using township, deed, ERF or farm number
  • Property owner search using name or ID
  • Register and pay transaction fee to access deeds information
  • Download PDF copies of deeds and related documents

Why is it Important?

The regional Registrars of Deeds maintain records of property ownership, which is critical for transferring ownership of properties and when municipalities are looking to collect rates from property owners. Private sector entities, such as insurance companies and banks, need to be able to verify ownership of a property and civil society organisations can monitor property ownership data to ensure transparent and inclusive property development.

How can it be accessed and used?

DeedsWeb offers a number of search options if you pay the required registration and transaction fees.

Owner enquiry: Property information can be accessed by searching on a person's name or ID information. You will be able to access report with information about properties associated with this person. Similar functionality applies to company and trust enquiries.

Property enquiry: This search is divided into sub categories by the property type entry field, and allows you to search using a number of fields such as ERF, farm, township or deed number.

DeedsWeb provides more information on what is available.

There are also several private sector intermediaries that re-package, distribute and/or supplement what is provided by DeedsWeb, such as Windeed, and government entities or agencies that retrieve and re-publish deeds information, such as through municipal valuation rolls or for tracking activities that can impact on heritage resources.
